Room Types within University Accommodation

There are three main types of room within University Accommodation, within these three room types there are some more variations which are explained below.

Standard

Standard individual study bed rooms involve sharing communal shower/toilet facilities in private cubicles and a kitchen typically with 1- 12 others. Variations are as follow:

Standard whb - this means there is a personal washbasin inside the study bedroom .

Standard - if a room is described simply as standard then no washbasin is supplied.

Enhanced Standard - this means there is a personal washbasin inside the study bedroom, as well as a flat screen monitor and your own VOIP phone . There is also be a higher ratio of communal showers and toilets (1:4 or 1:5) when compared with our other standard blocks where ratios are typically 1:6/1:7 .

Standard Shared - We have introduced twin rooms (for 2 students to share) as a great value option. There will be one twin room in each of the Eastwood Houses 1-19, for undergraduates. Each house accommodates 11-12 students sharing a communal kitchen and communal shower/bathroom facilities.
There will also be a number of twin rooms available in the John Wood complex and the Lodge for older mature undergraduates or postgraduate students sharing communal facilities with fewer students.
If allocated to a twin room, this will be your permanent room for the academic year. If a sharer leaves or transfers to another room, for whatever reason, before the end of the contract, the remaining sharer will have three options:
a) To find another UOB student within 14 days, not currently in university residence, who wishes to share their room.
b) To keep the shared room for their sole use and to pay the increased weekly rent for a large room
c) To move to a standard single room, which may be in another residence

The cost of an Eastwood twin room will be £55 per person per week and sole use of one of these rooms will cost £95 per week.
The cost of a twin room in the Lodge or John Wood complex will be £65 per person per week or £95/£105 per week depending on size if occupied by only one person.

En - suite

Here the study bedroom has its own shower/ bathroom, but you share a communal kitchen with other students and kitchen group sizes vary according to residence . There are two variations on the ensuite room;

En - suite shower - this means the en - suite unit is equipped with shower, toilet and washbasin

En - suite bathroom - this means the en - suite unit is equipped with bath, shower, toilet and washbasin

Studios

Studios are completely self - contained units - the student has their own study bedroom combined with an en-suite shower and small kitchenette. The kitchenette features a two hob cooker, microwave oven, fridge/ freezer and sink .

Studio lg refers to a larger sized studio but still for single occupancy

Studio double refers to a studio with a double bed suitable for single students or a couple. Newly refurbished for September 2009, these offer spacious self-contained accommodation for one or an economic option for a couple. The studio consists of a study-bedroom area with a 4ft 6” (double) bed plus an en-suite shower with WC and washbasin and a small kitchenette with microwave, two electric hobs; a separate fridge and freezer and sink.
