One of the long term aims of Accommodation and Hospitality Services is "to consider all actions that impact on the environment by focusing on reducing, re-using and recycling waste and reducing utility usage"

What are we doing?

A joint initiative between Accommodation and Hospitality Services, and Estates in the form of an electricity reduction challenge competition has run for 2 years. Savings in electricity use have been significant:

over the 3 years, savings = 734,000kWh = 310 tonnes CO₂

Green Tourism Business Scheme

The department of Accommodation and Hospitality Services holds the Green Tourism Business Scheme Award (Gold) for its Polden Court, Marlborough/Solsbury Court and Woodland Court accommodation complexes and its Catering outlets. The driver behind achieving this is to ensure that operations are more sustainable while still delivering a high quality service. "The Green Tourism Business Scheme, has been running since 1997 and with over 1700 members across the whole of the UK, it is the largest and most established scheme of its type in the World."
